While performing for family and friends her repertoire of jokes included infants to senior citizens. In her first public appearance as a comedian Erma won second place in the Africamericas Talent Express Competition, an annual event at the infamous Uptown Theatre in North Philadelphia in 1987. She was the featured comedian at Gloria’s Cafe’ in Brewerytown from 1990-1991. The exposure opened up doors to opportunities around Philadelphia and surrounding areas.

Erma was blessed at an early age with writing poetry. She started writing at the age of nine as a way to show her Grandmother she could type on the used typewriter her mother received from the family she worked for in a domestic capacity. She has been writing and reciting for family and friends ever since.
